The Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) of Tamil Nadu strongly condemns the unjust and politically motivated decision by the Union BJP Government to divert ₹2,152 crore allocated for Tamil Nadu’s students under the PM SHRI scheme to other states. This move is nothing short of an attack on the educational rights of Tamil Nadu’s students and reflects a dangerous trend of coercion and political discrimination against the state.
Tamil Nadu has always upheld its progressive, inclusive, and equitable approach to education. The state’s rightful rejection of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the three-language policy should not be used as an excuse for financial retribution. The decision to withdraw and redistribute these critical educational funds is an open act of blackmail aimed at forcing Tamil Nadu to accept policies against its will.
SIO Tamil Nadu asserts that education is a fundamental right, not a tool for political manipulation. Punishing students for the state’s independent stance on education policy is unethical and unconstitutional. The BJP government’s ruthless governance has yet again proven its disregard for federalism, social justice, and students’ welfare.
We demand:
- Immediate reinstatement of the ₹2,152 crore originally allocated to Tamil Nadu’s students.
- An end to the political and financial coercion that undermines Tamil Nadu’s right to determine its own educational policies.
- Respect for federal principles, ensuring that states are not punished for making independent policy decisions.
SIO Tamil Nadu stands in solidarity with Tamil Nadu’s students, educators, and policymakers who fight for an education system that serves the people, not political interests. We call upon all student organizations, activists, and citizens to resist this unjust decision and demand accountability from the Union Government.
